Why Adpi?

Our open motto "We Live For Each Other" means that our sisters are always there when we need them. They are our biggest supporters and most reliable friends. Everyone in Alpha Delta Pi has their own "Why Adpi" story. Today our fellow sister, Riley Melvin, is going to share hers:

Before committing to the decision to go through fall recruitment virtually this past semester, I was talking to one of my friends from home who had graduated from UCF the year before. I was asking her about all of the sororities on campus trying to gauge the personalities of each one. During this conversation she told me about this one chapter that she thought I’d fit in perfectly at and would be surrounded by like-minded girls – it wasn’t Alpha Delta Pi. But she did note that Alpha Delta Pi was a house filled with girls who were nice and were always trendy. So, after this conversation, I signed up for formal fall recruitment during a global Pandemic at a school I had never been to before, confident that I would breeze in and secure a bid from the house that I was told I would fit in perfectly at. After the first round of recruitment, the house that I was sure I would run home to, dropped me.

So, where do I go from here? Do I even continue with recruitment? Whe

The third day of recruitment, sisterhood round, I had the opportunity to talk to one of the most incredible people I’ve ever met, and now she’s one of my sisters. We started our conversation off just like every other, hometowns, Starbucks orders, and how happy we were to be doing recruitment in sweatpants this year. But then the typical surface level conversation pivoted into one I’ll never forget. This girl began to share why she ran home to Alpha Delta Pi and she kept saying a word that you almost always hear during recruitment: genuine. Except this time, when I heard it from her and listened to her story, it didn’t sound sugar coated, over-used, or unattainable, it sounded well, – genuine. It was that pivotal moment that I realized where I was meant to run home to, Alpha Delta Pi. Since then, I ran home, got initiated, got my fam and best friends all in one, was appointed an Executive Board position, and created memories that I’ll remember even when I forget my own name. While these women are both very nice and seriously so trendy, even more than that they are unique, passionate, kind, humble, talented, intelligent, selfless, and beautiful. They each push me to be a better sister, student, daughter, and just an overall person every day. Despite our differences in personalities, majors, backgrounds, and everything else in between, at the end of the day when we are all together eating meal plan, there is an undeniable bond between all of us because we share something so incredibly special – the genuine sisterhood of Alpha Delta Pi. And for that, I am forever thankful to my why ADPi, Kelsey Ford. - Riley Melvin
